14 Years of Creating Theater Experiences that Educate, Challenge and Inspire Audiences
Maskara Theater Guild, Inc. ushers into its 14th year of producing stage plays portraying Filipino culture and traditions. Being a partner in youth development, Maskara has provided a great venue for students in showcasing the best talents of its young thespians.
Maskara’s mission which is to create extraordinary theater experiences that educate, challenge and inspire young people has kept its young actors in maintaining the values of discipline, creativity, hard work, team work and most importantly they have lived to excel in their craft. With its vision to be a model for excellence in theater education, this amateur theatre guild strives to lead in the creation of new work for young people, in theater training and generating initiatives for using theater in education and community development.
MASKARA gives formal theater training program to its members. It employs the contemporary approach in Improvisational theater exercises and games, where members enjoy maximum guidance in theater education. Originally conceived in 2001, the guild is devoted to the staging in its original and translated version, classics by master playwrights, as well as powerful and incisive masterworks by professional and young and promising Filipino student-playwrights.
Maskara’s successful productions are achieved when all members are involved as collaborators in the pursuit of the artistic vision. Embracing the fundamental attributes of young people, members continue to have the values of curiosity, risk taking, candor and imagination. As the theater group continues to soar high, its young student-thespians believe that the mentoring of young people is a key responsibility of MASKARA. Its members are part of a larger world and our theater has a responsibility to illuminate connections, build bridges, and celebrate diverse cultures.
