THEATER ADDRESSING YOUTH’S OBSTACLES (TAYO) Project
The THEATER ADDRESSING YOUTH’S OBSTACLES (TAYO) Project is conceived when Maskara started out as a school organization in the year 2000, later it evolved into a Community Theater organization with its new name, Maskara Theater Guild of Davao which caters more members and audiences from the academe sector, other sectors such as the government sector, barangay and non government organizations. Maskara’s repertoire of plays includes issues on poverty, environment, child’s rights, women issues, health, migration, leadership and among others, issues that does not only concern one sector but everyone.
The project aims to provide venues for developing and enhancing the knowledge and skills of young people in theater arts training and production toward a more dynamic socio-culturally conscious young artists; develop young actors to use theater as an effective advocacy tool in educating the public about the various issues on youth;and surface youth’s perspectives and critical analysis on issues affecting the young people, their families and respective communities and finally, to enrich and develop positive character and personality development through dynamic, productive, fun-filled and value-oriented activities with its young actors and most importantly its audiences.
We want to produce more theaterworks for the youth so that WE CAN:
RE-ECHO REALITIES. Using theater arts as an effective tool in educating the public as we mirror to our audiences various Youths’ issues on stage.
BE RESPONSIBLE ARTISTS. Honing young actors with their craft as well as instilling in them on how to be responsible young individuals.
BE RESULT-ORIENTED. THEATER (Art & Education) + YOUTH (Issues) = CHANGE (Knowledge, Awareness, Action)
